Acanthocinus xanthoneurus, described as Ædilis xanthoneura by Étienne Mulsant and Claudius Rey in 1852 from Sicily [❖], is a species of enormous ecological and biogeographical interest known only from Italian Apennines (from the Tuscany-Emilia Romagna Apennines to Sicily). The beetles are nocturnal and can be found on dead beeches, where are developing their larvae.

Body length: 9 - 13 mm
Life cycle:1 year
Adults in:May - June
Host plant:monophagous on European beech (Fagus sylvatica)
Distribution:an endemic species to the Italian Apennines (from the Tuscany-Emilia Romagna Apennines to Sicily).
