Anastrangalia sanguinolenta, a common West-Palaearctic species inhabiting mountainous to sub-mountainous coniferous forests, has been described from Sweden as Leptura sanguinolenta by Karl Linné in 1761 [▽]. Larval development in completely dead wood of conifers (Picea, Pinus, Abies) with some moisture content. Attacks lying usually barkless wood, lower parts of standing dead trees, dead wood of barkless parts of living standing trees (e.g. after deer barking/stripping), abraded tree butts, above-ground parts of fence posts, et cetera. Usually more than one generation develops in a single tree. Life cycle two years. Adults, active from late May to August, are diurnal and anthophilous (on various flowers, especially Apiaceae, Aruncus, Knautia, etc. and on wood) [❖][✮][✳].

The depicted living beetles were collected in: ♀ - Lašovice village environs (Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area, Rakovník district, Central Bohemia, Czechia) on May 9, 2024; ♂ - Nethy Bridge (Cinn Drochaid) village environs (Strathspey, Highland council area, Scotland, UK) on June 12, 2022.

The mounted specimens were collected in Dolní Malá Úpa - Spálený mlýn environs (Krokmonoše Mts., Trutnov district, Hradec Králové region, North-East Bohemia, Czechia) on July 18, 2023.
