Callergates gaillardoti (Chevrolat, 1854) [❖] occurs in Dodecanese islands of Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Syria and Lebanon. C. gaillardoti larvae develop in dead decaying trunks and stumps of the pine trees (Pinus pinea, Pinus sylvestris, Pinus brutia, Pinus nigra, Pinus halepensis). Pupation occurs in the wood (in pupal cell) in the spring and summer. Life cycle at least 3 years. Adults, active from May to August, are crepuscular, nocturnal, and are attracted to light. The species is often accompanied by its close relative Ergates faber (Linnaeus, 1767).

The mounted beetles were reared from pupae found in pine trunk in Kolympia environs (Rhodes Island, Greece). The living beetles (PJ) were reared from larvae found in dead pine in Cyprus in April 2022. The living female (TN) was collected in Horsh Ehden Nature Reserve (Ehden environs, Zgharta district, North Governorate, Lebanon). The living beetles (AW) were reared from larva feeding in dead pine trunk found in Epta Piges environs (Rhodes Island, Greece) on May 20, 2012.Collected by Lech Kruszelnicki, Petr Jelínek, Tamás Németh and Adam Woźniak
