Callimus semicyaneus, a very rare and not often collected species occuring in Greece and Turkey, has been described from Taygetos Mts. (Peloponnese, Greece) by Maurice Pic in 1905 [❖].

Body length:9 - 10 mm
Life cycle:2 years
Adults in:May - July
Host plant:unknown - probably polyphagous in deciduous trees
Distribution:Greece, Turkey [✮]


The mounted specimen was collected on flowers in Avgadi environs (800-1100 m a.s.l., 35 km N of Erdemli, Mersin province, South Turkey) on June 16-20, 1996. The depicted living beetle was photographed in Anogia village environs (Sparta, Laconia, Peloponnese, Greece) on June 5, 2024.
