↑ - Longitudinal cut of a lime branch infested with Chlorophorus herbstii (Brahm, 1790). The larva creates an emergence opening just below the wood surface (left) before pupation. The adult then only needs to chew through a thin layer of bark. If the layer of bark left behind is too thick or the beetle is too weak (and unable to create the exit hole), it dies in the pupal cell (right).
