Dorcadion gebleri, the largest known species of the Dorcadion-genus occuring in Kazakhstan and West China, has been described by Gustav Kraatz in 1873 [✮]. This taxon includes four subspecies: D. gebleri demimetrum Danilevsky, 1996, D. gebleri gebleri, Dorcadion (Dorcadion) gebleri lukhtanovi Danilevsky, 1996 and Dorcadion (Dorcadion) gebleri takyr Danilevsky, 1996. Majority of them is endemic to East Kazakhstan, only the nominotypical subspecies extends its occurence range into West China [✧]. D. gebleri gebleri mainly occurs on a small area around Lake Zaysan. The aduts are active rather early from the end of April to May, and sometimes even in June. The larvae feed on the roots of Achnatherium spp. and probably also on Festuca spp. The adults feed on the above-ground parts of their host plants on which they also copulate [❖].
Body length: ♂♂ 21.7- 31 mm / ♀♀ 21.1 - 27 mm Life cycle: 1 year Adults in: April - June Host plant: roots of grasses (Achnatherium spp., Festuca spp., Poaceae) Distribution: East Kazakhstan and West China (Xīnjiāng province)
The depicted beetles were collected 4 km W of Kurshim (Күршім) village (N48°35′43″ E83°33′52″; 400 m a.s.l., Ketmen Ridge, Kurshim district, East Kazakhstan region, Kazakhstan) on May 7, 2015.Collected by Petr Jelínek
