Dorcadion politum, a species distributed from Orenburg Region of Russia and Aral Sea in South-Western Kazakhstan to about Barnaul environs in West Siberia and Tarbagatay Mountains in Eastern Kazakhstan, has been described from Semipalatinsk environs (Russia) by Johann Wilhelm Dalman in 1823 [✩]. The nominotypical subspecies of Dorcadion politum occupies the eastern part of the area, eastwards from the longitude ca E75° [❖][✧]. D. politum politum inhabits grassy steppes that were mainly formed by Stipa spp. and sparse grasslands in hilly plains. The larvae feed on various species of Poaceae. The adults are active from the end of April to mid-June [✮].

The depicted beetles were collected 3 km NW of Kopanbulak (Қапанбұлақ) village (N48°57′04″ E80°55′04″; Ayagoz district, East Kazakhstan region, Kazakhstan) on May 6, 2015.
