Dorcadion scabricolle, one of the most common and widely distributed Dorcadion species in Transcaucasia, Turkey and North West Iran, has been described from Georgia as Lamia (Dorcadion) scabricollis by Johan Wilhelm Dalman in 1817 [❖]. Taxon is characterized by very strong geographical variability and Maxim Alexandrovich Lazarev in his detailed revision of its subspecies structure published in 2020 [✧] lists an incredible 39 subspecies (!). According to the authors of the portal, the Lazarav's work about D. scabricolle deserves to be supplemented by a thorough molecular analysis of all listed subspecies to confirm the existence of their unusually high number in the occurence region.
Dorcadion scabricolle shirakense Lazarev, 2020, is distributed in East Turkey and West Armenia, Dorcadion scabricolle pseudosevangense Lazarev, 2020 is known from Zangezur Range (Զանգեզուրի լեռնաշղթա) in South Armenia.

The depicted living male and female of D. scabricolle shirakense were photographed in Nemrut Dagi caldera near Van lake (East Turkey) on June 3, 2011.
