Neoclytus acuminatus has been described from "America" as Callidium acuminatum by Johann Christian Fabricius in 1775 [▽]. This interesting and elegant Cerambycid species has been introduced to Europe (northern Adriatic) from North America in the XIXth century and is spreading widely to neighboring states. In Europe, it has been recorded in France, Italy, Croatia, Hungary, Germany, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro, Switzerland, United Kingdom [❖] and also in Slovakia [✧]. N. acuminatus is a polyphagous species attacking a wide range of deciduous trees and shrubs (Carpinus, Fraxinus, Ulmus, Populus, Morus, Castanea, Quercus, Acer, Juglans, Prunus, Pyrus, Tilia, Salix, Corylus, Euonymus, Robinia, Rosa, Vitis, Lonicera, Ostrya, Cercis, Ficus, Abies). The larval development (1 - 2 years) takes place under the bark and in the wood dying/dead strong branches and thinner trunks. Adults occur from April to August on dead wood of the host trees, exceptionally also on flowering shrubs.
Body length: 7 - 15 mm Life cycle: 1 - 2 years Adults in: April - August Host plant: polyphagous on a broad variety of deciduous trees Distribution: Austria, France, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, United Kingdom
The mounted beetles were captured on vineyard poles from thin locust (Robinia) trunks in Črnotiče environs (390 m a.sl., Koper, Slovenia) on May 2, 2014. The depicted living beetles were photographed in Hungary in May 2020.Collected by David Navrátil and Nikola Rahmé
