Oberea maculicollis, a rare Maghrebian species known from Algeria and Morocco, has been described from Algeria by Pierre Hippolyte Lucas in 1842 [▽]. The larvae of this beautiful beetle, closely related to the common Palaearctic Oberea (Oberea) oculata (Linnaeus, 1758), develop in the living poplar (Populus alba nivea, Populus thevestina) twigs. Adults, active in May and June, are diurnal and can be found on the host trees or on flowers [★].

The depicted mounted beetle was reared from larva found in poplar (Populus alba nivea) branch in Sidi Bouhria environs (830 m a.s.l., Beni Snasen Mts., Berkane province, Oriental/Oujda region, Morocco) in May 2024.
