Paracorymbia hybrida, a rare montane species endemic to South-West Europe (Northern Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy), has been described from French Alps as Leptura hybrida by Claudius Rey in 1885 [✧]. Recent and the last glacial distribution of this not often collected taxon in the Alps is discussed (in connection with the spreading of its original host Abies alba) in an interesting work by Francesco Vitali published in 2004 [✱]. P. hybrida larvae develop in decaying wood of coniferous trees, pupation in wood, life-cycle probably 2 years. Adults, active from late May to July, are diurnal and anthophilous (on Asteracee, Rosaceae, Apiaceae).
Body length: 9 - 13 mm Life cycle: 2 years Adults in: June - August Host plant: polyphagous in conifeous trees (Abies alba, Picea abies, Pinus spp., Larix decidua) Distribution: Northern Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy
The depicted mounted male beetles were collected in: (SP) - Vallferrera Valley (Alt Pirineu Natural Park, Lleida/Lérida province, Catalonia, Spain) on August 3, 1977; (SW) - Soglio village environs (1800 m a.s.l., Maloja district, Grisons canton, Switzerland) on July 5, 2015.Collected by Eduardo Vives and Christian Rieger
