Parmena algirica, a beautiful and rare taxon known from North Africa and South-Italian islands, has been described from Algerie ("Barbarie") by Francis Louis Laporte de Castelnau in 1840 [❖]. Opinions on whether Parmena algirica is a species, a subspecies, and even only a form of Parmena pubescens (Dalman, 1817) have changed over the years and are far from uniform among entomologists.
