Parmena breuningi was described as Parmena pubescens breuningi from Sierra de María (Almeria, Spain) by Eduardo Vives in 1979 [❖].
Species was included into a newly estabilihed subgenus Pilosoparmena by Maxim A. Lazarev in 2024 [✮].
