Phoracantha semipunctata, a beutiful Australian species introduced to the West Palearctic region during 20th century, has been described from
"Nova Hollandia" (Australia) as Stenocorus semipunctatus by Johann Christian Fabricius in 1775 [❖]. P. semipunctata, as well as its sister species
Phoracantha recurva Newman, 1840 (also introduced from Australia) is ecologically
associated with eucalyptus trees (Eucalyptus spp.) in which its larvae develop. Since it also attacks healthy trees, it is locally considered a pest.
