Phytoecia astarte, a widely distributed West-Asian species occuring from Iran to Lebanon, has been described from Asia Minor by Ludwig Ganglbauer in 1886 [✧]. Its the most common subspecies P. astarte lederi, known from Caucasus, Transcaucasia and Turkey, has been described from Armenia as Phytoecia astarte var. Lederi by Maurice Pic in 1899 [✳]. In Nemrut (SE Turkey) P. astarte lederi is regularly collected on a sg. Cynarae (Asteraceae) plant which most probably serves as its host [❖].
