Phytoecia circumdata, a Central-Asian species occuring in Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, has been described from Samarqand environs by Gustav Kraatz in 1882 [▽]. Into newly estabilihed subgenus Fulgophytoecia was this interesting species included by Maurice Pic in 1900 [❖].

The depicted beetle was collected was found on the host plant (Echium sp.) in Agalyk (Агалы́к) Mts. (1200 m a.s.l., Zarafshan Range / Зеравшанский хребет, Samarqand district, Samarqand region, Uzbekistan) on May 27, 1990.Collected by our mentor and teacher in entomology, Dr. Jaromír Strejček
