Phytoecia paulusi whas been described by Carolus Holzschuh from Central Lebanon in 1971 [❖]. The species was divided into two subspecies by Gianfranco Sama in 2000 [✧]. The nominate subspecies is endemic to Lebanon and the new one, ssp. bludanica, is distributed in Syria only.
Body length: 11 - 14 mm Life cycle: 1 year Adults in: April - June Host plant: Cirsium cf. lappaceum M. B. Distribution: subspecies endemic to Syria
The depicted beetles were collected in the type locality - Bloudan (بلودان) village environs (1970 m a.s.l., Al-Zabadani district, Rif Dimashq governorate, South Syria) on April 30, 2005.Collected by A.Kotán
