Phytoecia praetextata praetextata

Phytoecia praetextata, a species widespread from the Balkans through Turkey to the Caucasus and Transcaucaisa, has been described from Crimea as Saperda prætextata by Christian von Steven in 1817 [✧]. According to M. Rejzek et al. [❖] in Syria Phytoecia (Helladia) praetextata praetextata develops in Lapsana communis Linnaeus (Asteraceae).

Host plant:Lapsana communis
Distribution:South-Eastern Europe (Bulgaria, Romania, South parts of European Russia, Ukraine and European Turkey), Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia) and Asian Turkey


The depicted beetles (♂ 7.7 mm / ♀ 9.5 mm) were collected under Mount Agarmysh (Агармыш) near Staryi Krym (N45°01′06″ E35°03′01″; Kirovske district, Crimea) on May 14, 2012.
