Pogonocherus pesarinii, a rare endemic species to northern Morocco, has been described from Jebel Tasaot by Gianfranco Sama in 1993 [❖]. The biology of this interesting taxon is similar to related species of the genus Pogonocherus (e.g. Pogonocherus perroudi Mulsant, 1839. Larval development in dying twigs of Abies pinsapo maroccana and probably also in Cedrus antlantica.

Body length:7.5 - 10.5 mm
Life cycle:1 - 2 years
Adults in:March - August
Host plant:Abies pinsapo maroccana and probably also in Cedrus antlantica
Distribution:an endemic species to northern Morocco (known only from Western Rif Mts.)


The depicted male beetle was reared from larva found in dead Abies pinsapo maroccana twig in Chefchaouen/Shafshāwan (شفشاون) environs (1760 m a.s.l.; Talassemtane National Park, Rif Mts., Chefchaouen province, Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, Morocco) on April 14, 2024.
