Purpuricenus budensis, a widely distributed Mediterranean species reaching the northern limit of its occurence as far as Central Europe (Slovakia, Hungary), has been described from Wilhelmsbad environs (Hesse, Germany) as Cerambyx Budensis by Georg Friedrich Götz in 1783 [❖]

Body length:10 - 22 mm
Life cycle:2 - 3 years
Adults in:May - August
Host plant:polyphagous in deciduous trees (Prunus, Quercus, Ulmus, Paliurus, Salix, Pistacia etc.)
Distribution:Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine, Armenia, Syria, Turkey


The depicted beetles were collected in Katafigio Agrias Zois Kampos (Καταφύγιο Άγριας Ζωής Κάμπος) park (Karyes environs, Sparta municipality, Laconia, Peloponnese, Greece) on May 28, 2021 and in Meteora (Μετέωρα) environs (Thessaly, Greece) on May 24, 2022.
