This interesting and very rare Caucasian member of Clytini tribe, originally described by Edmund Reitter as Clytus vesparum from Talysh in 1889 [✧], was later moved into a new genus
Sphegoclytus [❖] estabilished by Gianfranco Sama in 2005 [✝]. Currently, Sphegoclytus Sama, 2005 is considered a subgenus of the genus Clytus.
