Stenopterus mauritanicus, an Ibero-Maghrebian species occuring in Algeria, Canary Islands, Morocco, Portugal, Spain and Tunisia, has been described from Algeria by Pierre Hippolyte Lucas in 1847 [✧]. S. mauritanicus larvae develop in dead wood of broadleaf trees and shrubs (Quercus, Pistacia, Cytiscus, Prunus, Calicotome etc.). Adults, active from May to July, are diurnal and anthophilous [✮].
