Trichoferus bergeri, an endemic species to Crete (Greece), has been described from Heraklion environs by Carolus Holzschuh in 1982 [❖]. Larvae of this nocturnal species develop in dead wood of deciduous trees (Ceratonia siliqua, Quercus spp., Ficus carica).

Body length:17 - 25 mm
Life cycle:2 years
Adults in:June - August
Host plant:Ceratonia siliqua, Quercus spp., Ficus carica
Distribution:species endemic to Crete (Greece)


The depicted beetles were reared from larvae found in Ceratonia siliqua in Therisos gorge (322 m a.s.l., Lefka Ori Mts., Chania region, Crete, Greece) on June 23-25, 2018.
