Xylotrechus stebbingi, a species of Oriental origin widespreading in Western Palaearctic during the last 30 years [✧], has been described from Himalaya by Charles Joseph Gahan in 1906 [▽]. According to Francesco Vitali this introduced species was for a long time errorneously identified and corresponds to a taxon Xylotrechus smei (Laporte de Castelnau & Gory, 1841) [❖]. Gianfranco Sama refuted this theory in his 2006 paper [★] (to illustrate, we present photographs of type specimens of both discussed taxa provided by Pierpaolo Rapuzzi).

The depicted beetles were reared from larvae found in a dead large diameter branch of Ficus carica. The branch was collected in Neo Ithilo (Lakoonia nomos, SW of Peloponnese, Greece) in May 2022.Collected by Daniel Rydzi
