Trichoferus holosericeus belongs with sister taxon Trichoferus griseus (Fabricius, 1792) among the most widespread and common Western Palearctic representatives of the Trichoferus genus, occurring throughout the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Asia Minor and Transcaucasia. Larvae of this broadly polyphagous (Robinia, Juglans, Populus, Ficus, Quercus, Castanea, Fagus, Ulmus, Alnus, Betula, Pistacea, Prunus and Ostrya) species can feed and grow in barkless wood with a moisture content below to the fibre saturation point, so they can develop in wooden artefacts of various hardwood species, not necessary recent. Thanks to this, together with Hylotrupes bajulus, it belongs among the most significant Cerambycid technical pests of wood in the Mediterranean [✧]. Life cycle 2 and more years (especially in dry old wood material), adults are crepuscular and nocturnal like other Hesperophanini. For galleries in attacked wood see the dedicated page.

Trichoferus holosericeus has been described from Italy ("in provinciis Florentina et Pisana") as Callidium Holosericeum by Pietro Rossi in 1790 [✮].
