Anoplodera sexguttata, a West Palaearctic species widespread from the Iberian peninsula to European Russia with a relict population in Algeria, has been described from Germany as Leptura sex guttata by Johann Christian Fabricius in 1775 [✧]. A. sexguttata larvae develop in rotten wood of Fagales (especially in Fagus sylvestris, but also often in Quercus spp.), pupation occurs inside the wood. Life-cycle lasts two years. Adults, active from May to July, are diurnal and anthophilous [❖][✮].

A. sexguttata is a variable species: the basic color is black, each elytrum with three yellow spots, but the spots can be reduced or combined, rarely they can be reduced completely and the beetle is all black.

Body length:7 - 12 mm
Life cycle:2 - 3 years
Adults in:May - July
Host plant:polyphagous in deciduous trees (Fagus, Quercus, Carpinus, Alnus etc.)
Distribution:Europe, Anoplodera, Turkey

The depicted living beetles were found on flowers in Broumy village environs (Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area, Rakovník district, Central Bohemia, Czechia) on May 28, 2022 / May 25, 2014.
