Chlorophorus varius, a species with large distribution area from West Europe to Kazakhstan and West Siberia, has been described from North Italy as Leptura varia by Otto Friedrich Müller in 1766 [▽]. Larval development in the wood of dead deciduous trees and shrubs of various diameters (from a few to tens of centimeters). Larvae of the first instars feed subcortically, then enter and feed in the sapwood where also pupate in hook-shaped pupal cells. Life cycle 2 - 3 years. Adults, active from May to September, are diurnal and anthophilous [❖].
