This tiny and not very common Cerambycid, occuring in South/South East Europe and Transcaucasia, can be found on flowers or beaten from blossoming hawthorns (Crateagus spp.) from April to June. The species is probably polyphagous in deciduous trees, however, only ivy (Hedera helix) has been reported as a host till now...

The species (as well as the genus Dolocerus) was originally described by Étienne Mulsant (1862, ☆) and successively by Lucas Heyden (1863), but the oldest name has not been used as valid since 2012 and is declared nomen oblitum according to Article 23.9 “Reversal of precedence” of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature fourth edition (ICZN, 1999; Löbl & Smetana, 2010) (cfr. Lemaire & Gros, 2016). Danilevsky (2012, ❖) affirmed that the spelling Dolocerus reichii Mulsant, 1862 (as well as the genus Dolocerus) must be corrected because the “Reversal of precedence” according to which priority may be reversed only if two conditions are both met and in the present case, the second condition (Art. 23.9.1.2.) is unrespected (ICZN, 1999) [✧].
