Dorcadion (Cribridorcadion) equestre was described from Southern Russia as Cerambyx equestis by Erich Laxmann in 1770 [❖]. Its wide distributed subspecies D. equestre reclinatum, known from Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, North Macedonia, Turkey, and Serbia & Montenegro, has been described from "Balkan" as Dorcadion equestre var. reclinatum by Gustav Kraatz in 1892 [✧]. D. equestre reclinatum differs from the nominotypical subspecies occuring in Russia and Ukraine, among others and above all by the absence of a dorsal rib in the basal part of the elytra [▽].
