Dorcadion grande, a striking Dorcadion species endemic to South-Eastern Kazakhstan, has been decribed from former Semirechye Oblast (Kazakhstan) as Dorcadion (Compsodorcadion) grande by Vasiliy Ewgrafowitsch Jakovlev in 1906 [✱]. Typical habitats of D. grande are grasslands on piedmonts in middle part of northern macroslope of Zailyiskiy Alatau Mts. in altitudes 1 000 — 1 800 m (Заилийский Алатау, South-Eastern Kazakhstan). Larvae feed on roots of various grass species (Poaceae), including fescue (Festuca spp.). Adults feed on above-ground parts of the same plant species. In warm sunny weather, males are actively moving in search of virgin females. Females are less active and usually staying under plants [❖].

Life cycle:	1 year
Adults in:	beginning of May - 1st half of June
Host plant:	larvae feed on roots of various grass species (Poaceae)
Distribution:	an endemic species to South-Eastern Kazakhstan

The depicted living beetles were photographed in Izvestkovyi (Известковый) village environs (1750 m, Kaskelen river valey, Trans-Ili Alatau, Almaty region, Kazakhstan) on May 14-15, 2015. The mounted beetles were captured in the same locality (altitude 1500 m) on May 2, 2016.
