Gnathacmaeops pratensis, a widely distributed species of Holoarctic boreal coniferous forsts, has been decibed from Tirol (Austria) as Leptura pratensis by Johann Nepomuk Laicharting in 1784 [▽]. Gnathacmaeops pratensis larvae develop under the dead, peeling bark of coniferous trees (Picea, Pinus), moving freely in cavities and along the galleries of other insects. Life cycle 2 years, pupation occurs in spring after the second overwintering. Majority of larvae pupate in the soil, but some pupate under the bark. Adults, active from June to August (in Europe), are diurnal and anthophilous [✳][✧].
