Paracorymbia simplonica, a rare montane endemic species occuring only in French, Swiss and Italian Alps, has been described from Simplon pass environs (Alps, Switzerland) as Leptura maculicornis var. simplonica by Léon Marc Herminie Fairmaire in 1885 [✧]. Larval morphology, host tree and biology of this less known taxon remain unknown, but probably are similar to sister taxa Paracorymbia (Paracorymbia) maculicornis (De Geer, 1775) or Paracorymbia (Paracorymbia) hybrida (Rey, 1885). Adults, active in June and July, are diurnal and anthophilous.

Body length:7 - 10 mm
Life cycle:2 years [?]
Adults in:June - August
Host plant:probably polyphagous in conifeous trees (Abiesa, Picea, Pinus) [?]
Distribution:Alps (France, Italy, Switzerland)

The depicted mounted beetles were collected in Le Boréon ski resort environs (Parc national du Mercantour, Saint-Martin-Vésubie, Alpes-Maritimes department, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, France) on July 12, 2016.
