Phytoecia paulusi bludanica

Phytoecia paulusi whas been described by Carolus Holzschuh from Central Lebanon in 1971 [❖]. The species was divided into two subspecies by Gianfranco Sama in 2000 [✧]. The nominate subspecies is endemic to Lebanon and the new one, ssp. bludanica, is distributed in Syria only.

Life cycle:1 year
Adults in:April - June
Host plant:Cirsium cf. lappaceum M. B.
Distribution:subspecies endemic to Syria


The depicted beetles were collected in the type locality - Bloudan (بلودان‎) village environs (1970 m a.s.l., Al-Zabadani district, Rif Dimashq governorate, South Syria) on April 30, 2005.
