Pogonocherus fasciculatus, a common species with large area of distribution (almost entire temperate zone of the Palaerctica) is ecologically linked to coniferous stands from the lowlands to the mountains. Larvae develop under the bark of weaker branches, the tops of weakened or uprooted trees, in the lower naturally dying branches of living trees. The species prefers a branches with a diameter of up to 3 cm, possibly up to 5 cm. The larvae feed subcortically, then enter the sapwood and pupate in a hook-shaped pupal cells. Data on the life-cycle duration and the date of pupation / hatching vary considerably. In the opinion of Milan Sláma [❖], it is probable that the period from oviposition to sexual maturity is two years, regardless of whether the beetles overwinter in or outside the pupal cells. Adults, which are crepuscular, occur in nature from March to October on fresh branches after harvesting, the lower dying branches and live branches on trees.
Pogonocherus fasciculatus has been described from Sweden as Cerambyx (fasciculatus) by Charles De Geer in 1775 [✩].
