Rhagium elmaliense, a very rare species endemic to South-Western Turkey, has been described from Elmalı environs (Antalya province, Turkey) by Herbert Schmid in 1999 [❖]. The occurrence of R. elmaliense, a species closely related to Rhagium (Megarhagium) caucasicum caucasicum Reitter, 1889, has so far been confirmed only in the vicinity of the type locality at Elmalı. The biology is not known, but will be similar to other species of the subgenus Megarhagium. So far, the only report of a host tree comes from our colleague Petr Papoušek, who found fully developed adults of this species in a dead Lebanon cedar (Cedrus libani) in autumn.
Body length: 14 - 19 mm Life cycle: 2 years [?] Adults in: April - June Host plant: probably polyphagous on conifers and deciduous trees, found in Cedrus libani Distribution: an endemic species to South-Western Turkey
The depicted mounted beetles were collected in Elmali environs (Antalya province, Turkey) in October.Collected by Petr Papoušek
