Stenurella melanura is probably the most common and widespread North Palearctic longhorn beetle, occurring in abundance on flowers from the Atlantic (Portugal) to the Pacific Ocean (Russian Far East). S. melanura larvae develop in rotting wood in contact with the soil, also on the root part of the trunks of both deciduous and coniferous trees (Betula, Salix, Acer, Quercus, Crataegus, Pinus, Spruce, Juniperus, etc.). Pupation in food substrate in spring and early summer, life-cycle 2 years. Adults, active from May to September, are diurnal and anthophilous [❖][▽].

Genus Stenurella Villiers, 1974 was divided into six subgenera (including nominotypical subgenus) by Hüseyin Özdikmen in 2013 [✧].

Body length:♂ ♂ 6 - 11 mm / ♀♀ 7 - 12 mm
