Trichoferus cisti, an endemic species to Morocco, has been originally described as Trichoferus spartii cisti from Tizi-n'Test (Morocco) by Gianfranco Sama in 1987 [❖]. Larvae of this species develop in living stems and roots of pink rockrose (Cistus villosus).

Body length:9 - 15 mm
Life cycle:2 years
Adults in:June - August
Host plant:Cistus villosus
Distribution:species endemic to Morocco


The depicted mounted beetles were reared from larvae found in Tizi n'Test pass environs (1400-2000 m a.s.l., Haut Atlas Mts., Morocco) on September 7, 2007. The living specimens were reared from larvae found in Cistus villosus in the same locality on May 27, 2022.
