Vesperus jertensis, a rare endemic species to Cáceres province of Spain, has been described (only male) by Pablo Bercedo Páramo and Pablo Bahíllo de la Puebla in 1999 [▽]. Female of this interesting nocturnal species was described thanks to its different behavior only in 2008 by Felipe Calvo Sánchez [❖]. V. jertensis differs from the closest species, V. serranoi, by the longer antennae and also by the shinier head, pronotum and elytral surface thanks of the lesser puncturation.

Body length:7.5 – 11.8 mm
Life cycle:2 and more years [?]
Adults in:August - September
Host plant:probably polyphagous on the roots of decidous trees and shrubs
Distribution:an endemic species to Cáceres province (Extremadura, Spain)

Collected by Felipe Calvo Sánchez (we gratefully thank for the depicted donated specimen to our friend Marcos López).
